In the 1980s, competition from multiplex theaters, offering a wider choice of films under one roof (though on smaller screens) prompted the Starlight in 1983 to convert to a six-screen complex accommodating 1,250 cars. The historic landmark, which was first opened in 1949, may be old. In 1956 a second screen was added, along with an additional gatehouse, and the drive-in’s name was changed to the Starlight Twin.
